Students have doing a genre study in our reading intervention group. When they came to the nonfiction genres, each group got to pick a historical figure or event to research. They had some guiding questions, but they mostly got to freely choose what they felt was important about each person/event. Those that picked an event (like the Gold Rush) picked a person to represent the event. Once they had taken some notes, they created and practiced a talk show script to later be recorded in front of a green screen. It was a fun way to read and utilize new knowledge from nonfiction text!
